Framed around results, not change. Huh? The voters want both. They want the results that come from a change in how government currently is not working for them. To divorce a campaign from sentiment is a very bad idea. People need to see that their candidates "get it". A candidate telling them their sentiments are not important is going to be rejected. Politics is both an art and a science.
The art aspect involves being an actual human being. This anecdote confirms my suspicion about how consultants haven not been helping the Democratic Party for the last twenty years. You simply cannot take human psychology out of the political equation.
“A campaign framed around results, rather than sentiment, gives incumbents the ground they need to compete.”
How do you do this when you have no power? This sounds like its written for incumbents who have more power in the minority than they would have in the majority, and are fine with that.
“Fear no longer just propels change; it also restrains it.” Is exactly the point! But sadly they mistake who is holding the fear in their scenario. The whole democratic establishment is too afraid of change! Actively strategizing anything other than how to deliver to the will of the people, is self sabotage. Either by choice or ignorance: this is exactly why they will fail to meet this critical moment. If Trump gets his way, the midterms could be the last chance for free & fair elections as we know them. If you honestly think “The Center can hold” you are not reading the room… you’re not even in the room, you’re not actually in the same building. The politics of the last decade are gone. Heck, the politics of the last election cycle are gone.
We live in a world where our institutions have been gutted, corrupted, pillaged, and destroyed. Our democracy is fleeting. Our rights are being stolen away. Our economy is on the verge of collapse. Our justice system is crumbling. Law and Order is just a tv show. And we provide money & weapons to a country committing genocides. Oh, and our President threatens to Nuke entire civilizations…
Left, Right and Independent; the bottom 95% are overwhelmingly in agreement. We all want drastic change, because these are drastic times. Our empire is falling. We cant go back to normal, because it no longer exists. We need to rebuild the broken systems; better & stronger. We want authentic representation. Candidates that will work on behalf of the people that elected them. Put morals and people over greed and exploitation. It’s just that simple! You don’t need algorithms and strategists to tell US what WE want.

2012 brain is a dangerous thing.
